Book Review ~ Gingerbread

For Gingerbread week I checked out every Gingerbread book I could find.  These four are the ones that got to me first!  It is always great to find a book The M’s want to read over and over, this time we found FOUR!

The Gingerbread Man

by Karen Schmidt

This traditional gingerbread story is a great way to start off gingerbread week.  The pictures are fun and playful.  The story flows easily, it is a book that appears in our Christmas collection.

The Gingerbread Cowboy

By Janet Squires    Illustrated by Holly Berry

Yee-haw!  This book is an exciting twist on the Gingerbread Man.  Instead of farm animals the Gingerbread Cowboy is chased by desert creatures.  It isn’t a sneaky fox that devours this yummy character, so does he get away?  You’ll have to read it to find out!  Janet Squires has a great website, which includes a few art activities and a gingerbread cowboy cookie recipe.

The Gingerbread Girl

Lisa Campbell Ernst

As you can imagine, the little old man and the little old woman, baked again!  This is the tale of the Gingerbread Boy’s sweet little sister.  She follows his path with the same excitement but things don’t turn out quite the same for her.

The Gingerbread Pirates

By Kristin Kladstrup    Illustrated by Matt Tavares

This book is something special.  Instead of a mad chase around town, this cookie simply wants to find his crew.  The story is interesting, and the pictures are captivating.  After reading it I think I might ask Santa for a pirate ship!

I’m always looking for a great new book, so email me your favorites.  Once I’ve had time to find them at the library, I’ll read them and pass the word along!
