Book Review ~ Christmas 1

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is the Christmas books we’ve read again and again.  I have listed three of the books I love the most.

Fancy Nancy: Splendiferous Christmas

By Jane O’Connor          Illustrated by Robin Priess Glasser

If you have not met Fancy Nancy. . . let me introduce you.  Fancy Nancy is a sweet, expressive and of course FANCY!  She can take anything plain and ordinary and add some lace.  My favorite thing about the Fancy Nancy books is the language.  Jane O’ Connor uses words that are not commonly directed at young children, and then explains them.  In Splendiferous Chirstmas, your kids will learn compromise, devastated, and improvise. After you fall in love with this one, make sure to check out the rest of the Fancy Nancy series!  As an added bonus, Fancy Nancy has a website with games and activities.  Little M has had so much fun decorating Nancy’s Christmas tree.

If You Take a Mouse to the Movies

By Laura Numeroff    Illustrated by Felicia Bond

What do you think happens when you take a mouse to the movies?  Only the silliest things of course!  In this Christmas themed book, a demanding little mouse insists one activiy after the next.  Eventually he ends up right back where he started.  Make sure to look carefully at the pictures, there are so many fun details!

The Christmas Song Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire

By Mel Torme and Robert Wells   Illustrated by Doris Barrette

I adore the artwork in this book.  It is colorful and simple.  The words of course are well known, and easy to read.  Sometimes I read it, sometimes I sing it, and sometimes we flip through the pages while we listen to it.

I’m always looking for a great new book, so email me your favorites.  Once I’ve had time to find them at the library, I’ll read them and pass the word along!

About Jillian

I love to create. I have tried many different mediums; sewing, cake decorating and storytelling are some of my very favorites. I have been a stay at home mom for 5 years (with a brief part time job somewhere in there.) Before I became a Mommy, I was co owner and teacher of a home family child care. I plan to jump right back into teaching preschool as soon as my kids are in school.
