Book Review about Letter of the Week

I think it’s time to throw in a book review related to the letter of the week.  These are some of our favorite letter books, and I think they accompany the letter of the week projects quite nicely.  If you are looking for Letter Activities to round up the
experience click here.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault
Illustrated by Lois Ehlert

Chicka  Chicka  Boom Boom is definitely a book to invest in.  This is one of our family favorites.  It has easy to read rhythm and since your kids will want to read it over and over they will get a lot of exposure to recognizing letters!  This story is about 26 lower case letters, the kids of course, climbing a coconut tree.  “Will there be enough room?”  Both lower and uppercase letters have a turn in the spot light.  We love looking for the M. . .can you guess why?

My “a” Book
by Jane Belk Moncure

Jane Belk Moncure did an excellent job with this series.  There are 26 books, one for each letter of the alphabet.  The series follows one “little” letter while he or she fills a box with items starting with their letter. These books are old, there are words that your little one will probably never use.  The upside of this is that you may be able to find the set at a yard sale or online for VERY cheap.  If you have this series, it is great to bring the letter book out that matches the letter of the week.

B is for Bulldozer
by June Sobel
Illustrated by Melissa Iwai

This one is perfect for little ones who love trucks and anything construction!  It’s neat to see words that are not commonly listed in alphabet books.  The journey from A – Z takes you onto a construction site where the building end result is. . .wait, you’ll have to read the book yourself.

About Jillian

I love to create. I have tried many different mediums; sewing, cake decorating and storytelling are some of my very favorites. I have been a stay at home mom for 5 years (with a brief part time job somewhere in there.) Before I became a Mommy, I was co owner and teacher of a home family child care. I plan to jump right back into teaching preschool as soon as my kids are in school.
