letter of the week. . .week ~ LETTER BOX

Back in December I posted a list of letter activities great to accompany the letter of the week.  This week I am going to be introducing them again.  Since our letter of the week is M, and isn’t that fitting for our little home, everything will revolve around M.  Any of these activities can be done with any letter.  You may choose to do all of the activities or pick and choose which one will work best with specific letters.

what you need: a box ~ a small piece of paper ~ tape ~ marker ~ items all starting with the same letter

Have you read the series by Jane Belk Moncure?  Each letter of the alphabet gets its own book.  A character, “Little M” in this case, collects items starting with that letter and fills his box.  You can read more about the series here.  We started by reading My “m” book.  I pulled out the perfect box and taped a piece of paper to the side.  I wrote an upper case and lower case M on the paper.
I quietly set the box out and added a few M items.  Magnets, a microphone, marbles, money and a magazine were the things I chose.  There are a lot more M things lurking around here, but I wanted to give M and M an opportunity to add things on their own.

Do you remember a few weeks ago when I suggested setting up an area in your house to leave out activities?  Here’s a refresher.  If you did set up a section it would be a great place to but your letter box!

What great things will you put in your M box?

About Jillian

I love to create. I have tried many different mediums; sewing, cake decorating and storytelling are some of my very favorites. I have been a stay at home mom for 5 years (with a brief part time job somewhere in there.) Before I became a Mommy, I was co owner and teacher of a home family child care. I plan to jump right back into teaching preschool as soon as my kids are in school.

  1. I’m totally going to do this with my 4 year old. I’m sure his sisters will love to help too. I’m sure they will think of putting their brother Michael in the box! LOL

You have a Michael too?!?! Although Big M has officially changed his name to Mike. It makes me a little sad, but he has a good reason. It’s shorter, easier to write;) We have quite a few M’s around here I was trying to figure out how to get them all in the box. A picture, a drawing, or maybe names written out. I would love to see a pic if they actually get your Michael in the box!

I love the idea of leaving out an activity. And I love the letter box. We just made cardstock letters and I think they would be great for doing a “letter box”

    Great idea!
